RiseHer Initiative

Empowering Communities for a Resilient South Sudan

South Sudan is one of the youngest nations in the world, yet it faces some of the most complex humanitarian and development challenges. Years of conflict, climate shocks, economic instability, and limited infrastructure have deeply affected the lives of millions of people. Women, youth, children, and marginalized groups remain disproportionately affected by poverty, food insecurity, limited access to education, and poor healthcare services.

RiseHer Initiative (RI) was founded to respond to these challenges with innovative, inclusive, and sustainable solutions that empower communities and strengthen resilience.

RI is a national humanitarian and development organization based in Juba, working in partnership with communities, civil society, government institutions, and international partners to create opportunities for vulnerable populations. Our work focuses on education, health and nutrition, livelihoods, digital data systems, and community capacity development to ensure that people not only survive crises but thrive beyond them.

Our Vision

RiseHer Initiative envisions a future where vulnerable communities — women, men, girls, and boys — are empowered through education, health services, and data-driven development to build a resilient and equitable future.

We believe that when communities have access to knowledge, resources, and opportunities, they can transform their own lives and build peaceful and prosperous societies.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower vulnerable communities through inclusive education, health, nutrition, and data-driven development while fostering resilience and sustainable growth across South Sudan.

Through integrated humanitarian and development programs, we aim to ensure that communities have the tools, skills, and systems necessary to improve their livelihoods and respond to future challenges.

Why Our Work Matters

South Sudan continues to face humanitarian crises driven by conflict, displacement, climate change, and economic hardship. Millions of people require assistance every year, particularly in rural and conflict-affected regions.

Some of the key challenges affecting communities include:

  • Limited access to quality education, especially for girls
  • High rates of malnutrition among children
  • Weak health systems in rural areas
  • Youth unemployment and limited livelihood opportunities
  • Climate shocks such as floods and drought
  • Limited access to reliable data for planning and service delivery

RiseHer Initiative works directly with communities to address these issues through integrated programs that combine humanitarian response with long-term development solutions.

Our Core Focus Areas

Inclusive Education

We promote access to safe, equitable, and quality education for vulnerable children and youth. Through scholarships, school supplies, mentorship programs, and STEM clubs, we help young people gain the skills they need for a brighter future.

Health and Nutrition

RI supports community health and nutrition programs that improve maternal health, child development, and access to basic healthcare services.

Livelihoods and Economic Empowerment

We equip women and youth with vocational and entrepreneurial skills that enable them to generate income and become economically independent.

Data and Digital Innovation

Our organization promotes the use of digital systems and biometric tools to improve service delivery, transparency, and accountability in humanitarian programs.

Community Capacity Building

We train local leaders, teachers, health workers, and youth groups to strengthen local institutions and ensure sustainable development.

Our Approach

RiseHer Initiative uses a holistic development approach, recognizing that education, health, economic opportunity, and governance are interconnected.

Our work is guided by key principles including:

  • Inclusivity and equity
  • Community participation
  • Innovation and technology
  • Sustainability
  • Accountability and transparency

By combining these principles with strong partnerships and community engagement, RI ensures that programs respond directly to local needs.

Our Commitment to Communities

At the heart of RiseHer Initiative is a belief that communities themselves are the drivers of change.

Rather than imposing external solutions, we work alongside communities to:

  • Identify challenges
  • Design locally relevant interventions
  • Build skills and knowledge
  • Strengthen local systems

This ensures that the impact of our programs continues long after projects end.
